OL2000: Unable to Import Lotus Organizer 97 GS Files

ID: Q197444

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to import a Lotus Organizer 97 GS file into Outlook by using the Import And Export Wizard, the only option available in the Files Of Type list is Lotus Organizer 97 (*.OR3).

CAUSE

Outlook does not have a converter for Lotus Organizer 97 GS, and therefore does not support the .OR4 file format.

RESOLUTION

Use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Export the data from Lotus Organizer by using the dBase format, and import the dBase file into Outlook.

Method 2

Rename the .OR4 file extension of the Organizer file to .OR3, and import this file.

Exporting the Data in Organizer

To export the data in Lotus Organizer, follow these steps:

  1. In Lotus Organizer, on the File menu, click Export.

  2. Click the Look In box, select the location of the file that you want to export, and then click the file name.

  3. Click dBASE (*.DBF) in the Files Of Type list.

  4. Click the From Section box, and select the section from which you want to export information.

  5. Click the Field Mapping box, and select the field mapping that you want to use.

  6. Click Mapping to map specific fields, and save your field mapping selections.

  7. Click Options to select additional export options. Click OK, and then click Export.

Importing the Data into Outlook

Organizer 97 GS uses different field names than Outlook does.

To import the data into Outlook, follow these steps:

  1. In Outlook, on the File menu, click Import And Export to start the wizard.

  2. Click "Import from another program or file" in the "Choose an action to perform" list, and click Next.

  3. In the "Select file type to import from" list, click dBase, and click Next.

NOTE: If you do not see dBase in the "Select file type to import from" list, you need to add the PIM converters component. For information on adding components, see the "References" section later in this article.

  4. Click Browse, locate and select the file that you exported from Organizer, click OK, and click Next.

  5. Select the destination folder, and click Next.

  6. Click to select the "Import <file name> into the folder" check box to complete the process.
