OL2000: (IMO) Configuring AT&T Worldnet Service

The information in this article applies to:
NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with
the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the
Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you
should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option
installed.
SUMMARY
This article describes how to configure the AT&T Worldnet Internet
Service Provider (ISP) for use with Outlook.
MORE INFORMATION
To configure the AT&T Worldnet ISP, follow these steps:
- Exit Outlook by clicking the File menu and then click Exit.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail icon and click Add. This will start the
Internet Connection Wizard.
- Type your name for the Display Name and then click Next.
- Type your Internet E-mail address, for example,
johndoe@worldnet.att.net
and then click Next.
- In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box, type "postoffice.worldnet.att.net"
(without quotation marks).
- In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, type "mailhost.worldnet.att.net"
(without quotation marks) and then click Next.
- For Friendly Name, type a name for the service (for example,
WorldNet)
and then click Next.
- Select the appropriate connection type as follows and then click
Next:
If you connect using a local area network, click "I use a LAN
Connection."
If you connect using a modem and have a Worldnet connection, click "I
use a modem to access my e-mail", and then click to select Worldnet in
"Use an existing dial-up connection." If you connect using a modem
and want to use a different Internet Service Provider (ISP), select it
from the list. If an appropriate connection does not exist, you can
create one using the Add button.
- Click Finish.
- Restart Outlook.
Complete the "Connect To..." Information
To complete the "Connetct To..." information, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, point to Send and Receive,
and click your Worldnet account.
- Type the network access ID supplied by Worldnet, this will be a
nine-digit number followed by @worldnet.att.net.
Example: 123456789@worldnet.att.net
- Type the Network access password assigned by Worldnet. This is
usually in the form of two words separated by a hyphen.
- Click to select Save Password.
It is important to remember that the Account/E-mail Name and
password, referred to in step 3 above, are chosen by the user, but the
Network Access ID and password, referenced in step 7, are assigned by
Worldnet.
