OL2000: Error Received When Attempting Import/Export

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to import or export files with Outlook, an information message appears:


   Microsoft Outlook cannot start the Import/Export Engine. This feature
   is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now? 


CAUSE

The necessary translator files or database converters are not available because they were not installed during Setup. Converters in Outlook 2000 are installed on demand. This applies to third-party personal information management (PIM) files and file types using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).


RESOLUTION

Click Yes to the information message. The Windows installer will start and install the necessary converter for the file you wish to import.

If clicking Yes above does not resolve the issue, run Office Setup, Add Components, and choose "Run all From my Computer" for Outlook and Converters and Filters.
