OL2000: Internet Explorer Dialer Appears When Attempting to Access LAN-based E-mail

SYMPTOMS

You are using Outlook to access an Internet mail service over a local area network (LAN) and Microsoft Internet Explorer as a Web browser over a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) connection. You notice that when you open Outlook to send and receive e-mail, an Internet Explorer dialer window appears, even though the Outlook profile or account does not reference the DUN connection.


RESOLUTION

Click Cancel or press ESC to dismiss the Internet Explorer dialer window. The LAN connection is not affected by the presence of the dialer.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
