OL2000: Error Messages Received Attempting to Open or Import iCal file

SYMPTOMS

You receive an appointment or meeting request sent using the iCalendar (iCal) format. When you attempt to open the iCal file by double-clicking it, you receive the following error:

Cannot import vCalendar File.

If you attempt to import the iCal file using Outlook you receive the following error:

The operation failed.

CAUSE

The iCal appointment file is damaged.

RESOLUTION

Ask the meeting organizer to resend the request or appointment.
