OL2000: (CW) Mail Message Format Changes Based Whether Outlook Is Online or Offline

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you send an e-mail message from another program, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Internet Explorer, the message format may change depending on whether you choose to work online or offline. If you have set HTML as your default e-mail format, Outlook uses HTML when online and Plain Text when offline.

RESOLUTION

If you are going to send an HTML-formatted message using another program, such as the Send Page by E-mail option on the File menu of Internet Explorer, make sure you are working online for profiles that contain an offline folder file (OST).

If you are sending a document as an attachment using Word, and you are working offline, after the message is created, on the Format menu, click to change the format to HTML. The Word document will remain an attachment, but the format of the message body changes from Plain Text to HTML.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 2000.

If you configure an Outlook profile to use Microsoft Exchange Server with the option to work offline with an offline folder file and HTML is set as your default mail format, Outlook behaves as follows:

When online messages are sent using other programs, such as Internet Explorer or Word, Outlook uses the default HTML format.

When offline messages are sent using other programs, such as Internet Explorer or Word, Outlook uses the Plain Text format.
