NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation. SYMPTOMSWith Microsoft Outlook, if you type a partial name for a Distribution List (DL) that is stored in your Contacts folder, into the To line of a new email message, the name may not resolve (be expanded to the full name). RESOLUTIONType the full name for DLs stored in the Contacts folder or store your distribution lists in your Personal Address Book (PAB) where they will resolve in a manner similar to individual names. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
If you type a partial name for an individual Contact, into the To field of a new message, it will resolve properly. This is also true of partial names for DLs stored in the PAB. However, this is not true of partial names for DLs stored in the Contacts folder.
The names of DLs in the Contacts folder are stored as one complete property rather than three (first name, middle name, last name), as are individual contacts. This assists in maintaining their sort sequence when switching between last-name/first-name and first-name/last-name displays but does not allow partial entries to be expanded into full names.
