NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed. SYMPTOMSIf you attempt to send a fax message from Outlook running on Microsoft Windows NT Workstation, you may receive the following series of error messages: When you click Yes, the Windows Installer starts and then you receive the following error message: When you click OK you receive the following error message: When you click OK you are returned to Outlook without the fax being sent. CAUSEYou are attempting to install on demand the Symantec Fax Starter Edition and you are not logged on to Windows NT as an administrator, so this behavior by design. RESOLUTIONQuit Outlook and restart Windows NT. Log on to Windows NT with an account that belongs to the workstation's administrator group and then attempt to fax in Outlook. With administrator permissions you will be allowed to install Symantec Fax Starter Edition the first time you attempt to fax. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Outlook Setup allows you to designate some items to be installed upon first use. When you first attempt to fax, and Symantec Fax Starter Edition has been set up to install upon first use, Outlook attempts to install the fax service.
