OL2000: Find All Related Messages Fails On Encrypted Messages

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Find All Related Messages command specifying an encrypted message as the starting point, you may receive the following error message:

The folders specified in the search are not available. Outlook will search the default folder for the item type you are looking for.

CAUSE

The Secure Multi-Purpose Internet Messaging Extensions (S/MIME) encryption does not allow searching for related messages even though they may not be encrypted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
