NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed. SYMPTOMSWhen doing a silent installation of Outlook, Internet Mail Only (IMO), and you include Symantec Fax, you are still prompted to type information to set up the fax. This defeats the purpose of silent installation. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATIONA silent installation refers to installing Microsoft Office or Outlook with no user intervention. Typically a setup package would be created with the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW). When setting up the CIW, you would use variables such as %username% to insert user-dependent information automatically. The CIW has a check box that when checked, sets up the installation to be silent. This adds a /q command-line switch to the setup string. For example: Setup.exe /qThe CIW does not have a place to put user-specific information for Symantec Fax. After the silent installation has been done, you are still prompted to type information for configuration of the Symantec Fax service with the Symantec Fax installation wizard.
