OL2000: Certificate Export Ignores User's Preference of File Format

ID: Q218282

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you export a certificate and specify the file format of ".epf", Outlook attempts to use the format ".pfx" instead. The result is an unsuccessful export.

WORKAROUND

Use the following steps to correctly export a certificate:

  1. Start Outlook with a version V1 certificate installed.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then on the Security tab, click Import/Export digital ID.

  3. Click to select Export, and then click Select.

  4. In Select Certificate, click to select a certificate to export, and then click OK.

  5. Click Browse, and in the Locate Security Profile dialog box, type the file name you want to save, and set the File of type to Exchange Security (*.epf). Click Open, and then click OK.

NOTE: You must have configured a V1 Exchange certificate in order to have a certificate to export with the .epf extension. Exchange certificates use the Exchange Security (*.ecf) format while Internet certificates use the Internet Security (*.pfx,*.p12) file formats.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
