SYMPTOMS

When you use the Out Of Office Assistant to turn on an out of office notice, recipients may receive two notices instead of one.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when a server-side rule is orphaned on the server. You cannot edit an orphaned rule. When you open the Out Of Office Assistant I am currently out of the office will be selected and include a message. Under These rules will apply to incoming messages while you are out of the office you will see the orphaned rule that is causing the problem.

RESOLUTION

To remove the second out of office notification, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Out of Office Assistant.

  2. Click the rule under These rules will apply to incoming messages while you are out of the office.

  3. Click Delete Rule and then click OK.

After you have removed the problem rule, you can use the Out of Office Assistant to create a new server-side rule.
