OL2000: Inbox Assistant Rules Turned Off in Rules Wizard

ID: Q218349

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Inbox Assistant rules to the Rules Wizard, you may find that some of your rules are turned off. If you click to select the rule check box, you receive the following error message:

The redirect action is a server only action and cannot be combined with client only actions.

CAUSE

The rule action to "redirect it to people or distribution list" cannot be used with a client-side rule action, such as "notify me using a specific message."

RESOLUTION

Modify the rule so that you do not mix the "redirect it to people or distribution list" action with any actions that must run from your client computer.

MORE INFORMATION

Client-side options include anything that requires Outlook running on your computer, or access to files on your computer. Server-side rules can run from the e-mail server, even while you are logged out of your e-mail account and your computer is turned off.
