NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you click Run Now after selecting a rule in the Rules Wizard, you get the following error message:

There was an error running rules. Not all messages were processed

CAUSE

You were attempting to run the rule while the focus was set to a folder in the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders.

NOTE: While you can run rules to move items to shared folders you can not run a rule on the Shared folder. You will get the above error message.

RESOLUTION

Change the focus to a folder outside of the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders, such as your default Inbox. You can then run the rule successfully.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This error gives the impression that you can't run rules on Microsoft Mail Shared Folders. The error will only occur if your focus (the currently selected folder), is a folder in the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders.
