OL2000: No Attachment Icon in Table Heading

ID: Q218356

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you receive a message using Outlook, you do not see the attachment icon (paper clip) in the table heading of your view, even though the message contains an attachment.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem can occur in more than one situation.

Situation 1 - Remote Mail

If you configure Outlook Corporate or Workgroup (CW) to use Remote Mail with a Internet E-mail account, when you download the message headers you do not see an attachment icon for those messages with attachments. When Outlook downloads message headers from an e-mail account (POP3) the downloaded headers do not contain useful attachment information.

Outlook (CW) configured with a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account does show the attachment icon in Remote Mail message headers. This is because of the difference in what information is downloaded using an Exchange Server service versus using an Internet E-mail (IMEP) service.

Situation 2 - Secure Mail

If you receive a secure S/MIME message using Outlook Internet Mail Only (IMO), you do not see the attachment icon in the table header of your view. The same message received in Outlook CW shows the attachment icon.
