OL2000: Copy and Paste From HTML Message Into Office Program Loses Pictures

ID: Q218364

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to paste a graphic from an Outlook HTML-formatted message into another Office program, such as Microsoft Word, the graphic does not appear in the target document. If you attempt to paste an entire Outlook HTML-formatted message into another Office program, such as Word, the text appears but no graphics appear in the target document.

RESOLUTION

There are three suggested methods for using a graphic from an HTML message in another Office program. These methods assume a Word document as the receiving file.

Method 1

Save the graphic to your hard disk and then paste it from the hard disk into your document. If the message contains multiple graphics you must save each graphic separately. To paste a graphic from an Outlook HTML-formatted message into a Word document, follow these steps:
  1. Open the HTML-formatted message.

  2. Right-click the graphic, and then click Save Picture As.

  3. Save the graphic to the Windows Desktop.

  4. Right-click the file you just saved on the Windows Desktop, and then click Copy.

  5. Start Word and open the target document.

  6. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

Method 2

Use the Insert File command to place the graphic, saved in Step 3 above, in the receiving document. To insert the file in this manner, follow these steps.
  1. In Word, click the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.

  2. In Insert Picture, navigate to the saved file and then click Insert.

Method 3

Embed the graphic in your document by using the Paste Special command. To embed the graphic in this manner, follow these steps:
  1. Open the HTML-formatted message.

  2. Right-click the graphic and then click Copy.

  3. In the Word document on the Edit menu, click Paste Special.

  4. In Paste Special, click Device Independent Bitmap and then click OK.

NOTE: Since Office 2000 programs use adaptive menus, you may have to click the chevrons at the bottom of each menu to access the referenced commands.
