OL2000: Pressing the DELETE Key While the Focus Is in the Preview Pane Deletes the Entire Message

SYMPTOMS

With the insertion point in the Preview Pane, pressing the DELETE key deletes the message or item instead of the character immediately to the right of the insertion point.

RESOLUTION

To recover the deleted message, open the Deleted Items folder and move the deleted message or item back to the appropriate folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is different than Outlook 98, which ignored the DELETE key while the focus was inside the Preview Pane.
