OL2000: (IMO) Cannot Fax to a Contact with No E-mail Address

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to send or forward a fax to one of your contacts that has a fax number but no e-mail address, you will receive the following error message

The following recipients do not have e-mail addresses: <contact name>.
where <contact name> is the contact you wanted to fax to.


CAUSE

The item is not properly set as a fax item.


RESOLUTION

On the Actions menu, click New Fax Message.

If you want to forward a message, on the File menu, click Send Using to force Outlook to use the Symantec Fax Starter Edition.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.


MORE INFORMATION

While you can send faxes by typing the fax number on the To line of an e-mail message, you cannot use a contact record to address your fax unless it also has an e-mail address. The e-mail address does not have to be a valid address.
