SYMPTOMSIf you open a file, such as a Microsoft Excel workbook, from a public folder, it may open as read-only one time and editable another time. The behavior is different when you open the file from the table view, versus the preview pane in Outlook. CAUSE
The preview pane does not open a file or object for editing; it opens items for preview in a read-only state. REFERENCESFor additional information about the behavior of attachments opened from the preview pane, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q195412 OL2000: Cannot Save Edits Made to Attachments in Preview Pane Additional query words: OL2K
