SYMPTOMSAfter using the Net Folders feature with Outlook 98, you upgrade to Outlook 2000. Although you find that the Sharing command is available on the File menu, updates to previously shared items are not occurring. CAUSENet Folders is installed on-demand in Outlook 2000. This means that the software necessary to use the feature will be installed the first time you attempt to use it. RESOLUTIONEither run the Windows Installer to add Net Folders with Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode, or attempt a Net Folders operation to install on demand. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATIONOnce the Net Folders feature is added, the settings you previously used in Outlook will still be operable. Use either of the two following methods to add Net Folders. Installation Using the Windows InstallerTo install the Net Folders using the Add/Remove Control Panel, follow these steps:
On-demand InstallationWhen you attempt to start a Net Folders operation, you receive the following message:The feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now?If you click Yes, the Windows Installer will start and install Net Folders. NOTE: After upgrading to Outlook 2000, you may see unprocessed messages in your Inbox. These messages are identified by the text, "#NET FOLDERS#" and may appear because updates were received while the Net Folders add-in and associated components were not available. To process these messages and continue using Net Folders, double-click the message and then close it. The unprocessed updates will then be processed. Additional query words: OL2K
