OL2000: Attached Contact Is Not Saved to Contacts Folder

ID: Q222334

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a contact record sent as a mail attachment, it will open in a Contact form. However, clicking Save and Close on the form does not save the record in the default Contacts folder.

RESOLUTION

Drag the attachment to your default Contacts folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Contact information sent as an attachment behaves differently depending on how the information was attached to the message:

  • If the contact information is attached by dragging a contact to the mail message, you must drag the contact to the Contacts folder to save it. The information is not saved in the default Contacts folder when you open the form and click Save and Close.

  • If the contact information is attached as a vCard (.vcf) file, you can double-click the attachment and it will open in a Contact form. In this case, if you click Save and Close on the form, the contact information is saved in the default Contacts folder.

To Send a Contact As a vCard Attachment

  1. Right-click a contact in the Contact folder to select it.

  2. On the shortcut menu, click Forward as a vCard. This opens a mail message with the contact information attached as a vCard file.

  3. Address, complete, and send the mail message.
