OL2000: Global Address List Entries with More Than Two Names Display Incorrectly

SYMPTOMS

When you create a contact by adding a recipient's address from the Global Address List (GAL) to the Outlook Address Book, if the recipient's display name has three distinct names, the middle name is added twice.

RESOLUTION

Remove the additional name from the contact record, or manually enter addresses for contacts that have three or more names in the GAL.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

A contact with the display name, "John Henry Smith" is added as, "John Henry Henry Smith." In this case, the middle element of the display name is an actual middle name.

The same behavior occurs if the person has two first names. For example, "Mary Ann Jones" would appear as "Mary Ann Ann Jones."

The Sort by setting is affected as well. In the examples mentioned, the sort order is "Smith, John Henry Henry" and "Jones, Mary Ann Ann."

To Correct the Full Name Display

1. On the File menu, click New, and then click Contact.



2. Click Full Name and in Check Full Name, enter the name elements for the contact in the First, Middle, and Last name fields.



3. Add any additional information for the contact and then click Save and Close.
