OL2000: (IMO) Symantec Fax Starter Edition Modem Configuration Wizard Fails

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

After changing the modem used for faxing from Outlook, clicking Yes to set the fax properties does not work. There is no error message; the dialog box simply disappears.


RESOLUTION

Restart the computer, restart Outlook, and reconfigure the modem manually.

  1. Restart your computer, and then quit and restart Outlook.


  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  3. On the Fax tab, click Modem.


  4. In Modem Properties, under Connection device, click to select your modem. If there is more than one listed, click to select the one you wish to use for faxing.


  5. While pressing the SHIFT key, click Properties. This will start the Modem Configuration Wizard. Click Yes to start the process.


  6. Click Next to start the modem detection process. Click Finish



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
