NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation. SYMPTOMSIf you previously installed Outlook 97, but never configured the program to send or receive e-mail, and then installed Outlook 2000 choosing the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you are not prompted to enter your e-mail configuration. CAUSEOutlook 2000 detects the presence of the file, Outlook.prf, which is installed by Outlook 97 to provide a No E-mail profile for first-time users. If there is no profile containing e-mail information in Outlook 97, Outlook 2000 uses the information in Outlook.prf and starts a profile containing only the Outlook Address Book and personal folders. RESOLUTIONManually add and configure the e-mail service you want to use. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
When this condition exists, Outlook starts with the Outlook Address Book and personal folders in the MAPI profile. If you need e-mail access or information sharing, add a MAPI service to the profile.
