OL98: Macro Virus Warning When Changing Message Options of Outlook Custom Form

ID: Q222850

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook, versions 2000, 97, 98

SYMPTOMS

Changing message options of a Microsoft Outlook custom message form causes a macro virus warning to occur.

CAUSE

The form becomes one-off when the Send options have been changed.

RESOLUTION

Instead of changing options from the message option panel, you can set the Send options in the design mode by adding a control to the form and associating the control with an appropriate Send option. For example:

  • In the Design Form mode, add a text box to the form.

  • Right-click the text box and then click Properties.

  • Under the Value tab, click the Choose Field command button.

  • Select Date/Time fields and then click Defer Until. Accept the default settings and close the Properties window.

  • Publish the form again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To see the behavior, please follow these steps:

  1. Open a custom message form (with message class IPM.Note.***) from your Personal or Organizational Forms Library.

  2. In the menu, click View and then select Options.

  3. Change any options in the Message Options window and close the window.

  4. Send the message to yourself.

Although you have the form published on your computer or in the Organizational Forms Library, you will see the macro warning message when you open the received message.
