OL2000: Synchronization Error Attempting to Edit Leap Year Date Appointment

SYMPTOMS

If you set an annually recurring appointment on the Pocket Outlook Calendar for February 29, 2000, and then synchronize the Calendar with Outlook and subsequently edit the item in Outlook, you may receive the following error message the next time you synchronize Calendar with Outlook:

ActiveSync Error

The following Recurring Event cannot be written to Microsoft Outlook due to an unknown error. Error 80180f04. The item will be skipped.

End: 2/29/00 

The error occurs even though Outlook has adjusted the recurring appointment to February 28 on subsequent years.

WORKAROUND

Do not make a recurring appointment for the leap year date, February 29.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
