OL2000: (IMO) Error Message "You do not have permission to send..." When You Forward a Meeting Request

ID: Q223923

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to forward a meeting request while using Outlook (IMO), you may receive the following error message:

You do not have permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if an Outlook Corporate or Workgroup (CW) user sends a meeting request to an Outlook Internet Mail Only (IMO) user, and then the IMO user attempts to forward the meeting request to another e-mail address. The server will only grant "send-on-behalf-of" permission for other Microsoft Exchange users, not one-off addresses.

This problem does not occur when an Outlook (CW) user forwards a meeting request. It also does not occur if an Outlook (IMO) user forwards a meeting request from another IMO user.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
