SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade from Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x and Microsoft Internet Mail and News, to Internet Explorer 5 and Outlook, Internet Mail and News is not detected when Outlook runs for the first time. Additionally, if you attempt to manually import mail and addresses, the addresses are not imported. CAUSEThe installation of Microsoft Outlook Express 5 with Internet Explorer 5, replaces the Internet Mail and News entry in a registry key, causing it not to be detected. RESOLUTIONUse the import feature in Outlook Express to import the account settings, mail, and addresses, and then import using the Outlook Import/Export Wizard. MORE INFORMATION
After installing Microsoft Office or Outlook, start Outlook Express. You will receive a message stating that Outlook Express needs to migrate settings from an older version of Outlook Express. This action will use the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW) to confirm the settings from Internet Mail and News. To Import Messages and Addresses
If you have upgraded from Windows 3.1 to a Microsoft 32-bit operating system, and previously used the 16-bit version of Interent Mail for Windows 3.1, you can migrate messages and addresses first into Outlook Express, using the same procedures as outlined, and then into Outlook.
