OL2000: (CW) Error Message "Messaging session could not be acquired. Would you like to start a new session?"

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to import a folder while using "MS Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail," you may receive the following error message:

Error: Messaging session could not be acquired. Would you like to start a new session?
If you answer No to the message above, the import window closes.

If you answer Yes to the message above, you receive the following error message:
MAIL SYSTEM Error: (Personal Folders, No Error Message)
When you click OK to the message, Outlook stops responding.


CAUSE

Outlook is not your default e-mail client.


RESOLUTION

Set Outlook to be your default e-mail client.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.


  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.


  3. On the Programs tab, in the E-mail list, click to select Microsoft Outlook.
