ID: Q223984

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you create a rule using the Rules Wizard, that plays a sound when you receive new mail, the sound may stutter or not play completely.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the Office Assistant is visible and you have turned on the option to Make sounds. The incoming message triggers the Rule Wizard rule to play a sound file at the same time the Office Assistant is attempting to play a sound.

RESOLUTION

You can usually resolve this problem by either hiding the Office Assistant or turning off the option to Make sounds in the Office Assistant. To turn off the Make sounds option, with the Office Assistant running, click Options, and then click to clear the Make sounds check box and click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
