OL2000: (CW) Fax Remains in Outbox If Outlook Is Not the Default E-mail Editor

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to send a fax from Outlook when Outlook is not your default e-mail editor, the fax may remain in the Outbox.


RESOLUTION

Choose Outlook as your default e-mail editor.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.


MORE INFORMATION

Outlook Setup is not complete until it is run the first time. You should not install add-ins, switch mail support options, send mail from other programs, or use the Mail & Fax icon in Control Panel, before running Outlook first. If you chose not to use Outlook as your default e-mail editor during First Run, you can do so using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Options menu.

To choose Outlook as your default e-mail editor, follow these steps:

  1. Start Internet Explorer.


  2. On the View menu, click Internet Options. If you are using Internet Explorer 5, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.


  3. On the Programs tab, click to select Microsoft Outlook from the E-Mail or Mail list, and click OK. On the File menu, click Close.
