OL2000: Inserting Outlook Items When Sending E-mail From Other Office Programs

ID: Q224850

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you send e-mail from other Microsoft Office 2000 programs, there is no option to insert Outlook items as attachments.

RESOLUTION

Add a Windows Registry entry to add an Item button to the e-mail toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You have the ability to send e-mail from within other Office programs, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. To do so, click the E-mail button on the toolbar. This opens an e-mail header (envelope) containing an E-mail toolbar. By default, this toolbar has no option to insert Outlook items as attachments to the message. However, you can add a button for this purpose by adding an entry to the Windows Registry.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To Add the Registry Entry

  1. click Start, and click Run.

  2. In Open, type regedit, and click OK.

  3. Move to the following registry key:

  4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/9.0/Outlook
  5. Right-click the Outlook key, point to New on the shortcut menu, and click DWORD Value.

  6. For New Value #1 change the name to, ExtendedEnvelopeUI and press ENTER.

  7. Quit the Registry Editor.

This will add a button to the e-mail toolbar, Item, for adding Outlook items as attachments to a message.

NOTE: This will also add buttons to the E-mail toolbar for formatting the message in either HTML or Plain Text.
