OL2000: (CW) How to Re-Download Internet Mail in Outlook

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

This article describes how to download Internet e-mail again from a mail server, even though you have previously downloaded the mail to the same computer.


MORE INFORMATION

On occasion you may use the Internet E-mail service to view mail on your POP3 server, but leave the original mail on the server. This allows you to view messages on one computer, and later view the same messages on another computer.

These procedures only apply if you have set the Internet E-Mail service to Leave a copy of messages on server.

To to download Internet e-mail a second time:

  1. Quit Outlook.


  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.


  3. In the Named box, type Msin<****>.rhc where <****> is a four-digit number. Click Find Now.


  4. Right-click the Msin<****>.rhc file, and then click Rename.


  5. Rename the file to Msin<****>.old.


  6. Start Outlook and previous e-mail messages are downloaded again when you check for new mail.
