OL2000: Attachments Stripped When Forwarding

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000
  • Microsoft Office 97 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1)
  • Microsoft Office 97 for Windows, Service Release 2 (SR-2)


SYMPTOMS

When forwarding messages with Outlook, attachments are stripped before the message reaches the Sent Items folder.

The following conditions must be met in order for this to occur:

  • Outlook 2000 is installed on the computer, with Microsoft Office 97.


  • Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages is selected.


  • The message arrived via SMTP, in Plain Text format, from a non-Microsoft Exchange client.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Product Name service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Outlook 2000 (except for the version localized for Thai) and Microsoft Word 97.
