OL2000: (IMO) Automatically Selects the Remember Password Box

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

Outlook automatically selects the Remember Password check box. This can cause problems for customers who do not allow passwords to be cached to disk and may also cause a blank password to be cached to disk; this would lead to login failures.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.


MORE INFORMATION

This is a problem in the Outlook Express Account Manager which is also used by Outlook IMO.

The hotfix can only be installed on a computer running Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0a. An error message will be displayed if you attempt to install the hotfix on a computer running a version of Internet Explorer earlier than 5.0a.
