OL2000: Error Message: " The view is damaged..."

SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook, you receive the following error message:

The view is damaged. Default view settings will be used.


CAUSE

An element of a view in the current folder is damaged.


RESOLUTION

Use the Cleanviews command-line switch to reset the view.


MORE INFORMATION

To apply the Cleanviews switch, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, click Run, and in the Open box, type the following command:

outlook /cleanviews
  2. Click OK. Outlook will start without the previous error.


In some instances, it may be necessary to run the switch a second time. Additionally, some customized views may need to be recreated.
