OL2000: When Composing a New Message You Are Prompted to Insert CD

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to compose a new mail message after installing Outlook, you receive a prompt to insert the Microsoft Office 2000 or Outlook 2000 compact disc.


CAUSE

The message format you have chosen uses a stationery file, and when you ran setup for Outlook, you selected stationery to be run from the compact disc.


RESOLUTION

Install the stationery files on your computer.

To install stationery on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Outlook. On the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.


  3. Click Microsoft Office 2000 <product>, where <product> is the edition of Office you have installed, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. In Maintenance Mode, click Add Remove Features.


  5. In Update Features, click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows. Click the Stationery list and then click Run From My Computer. Click Update Now.


Start Outlook and create a new mail message. You no longer receive the prompt mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
