OL2000: Incorrect Language Error Attempting to Download Security Patch

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to download the Outlook 2000 E-mail Attachment Security Update, you receive the following error message:

This patch is for English versions of Outlook 2000 only. Patch cancelled.


CAUSE

Your Office language setting is not properly set for English in the system registry.


RESOLUTION

Edit the registry to reflect English as the language for your Office installation. The language value designation for English is 1033.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

Office Language Value 1033 Set to Off

To correct the language registry in your system registry:
  1. On the File menu, click Exit or Exit and Logoff to close Outlook if it is currently running.


  2. On the Start menu, click Run. In the Open box, type regedit. Click OK.


  3. In the registry tree, navigate to the following sub-key:


  4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\LanguageResources
  5. In the list in the right window, click to select the value 1033. On the Edit menu, click Modify.


  6. In Value Data, type On, and then click OK.


  7. On the Registry menu, click Exit.


  8. Return to the Office update Web site and attempt to download the E-mail Attachment Security Update.


If your registry value is correct, then try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu. Then reinstall the E-mail Attachment Security Update.
