ID: Q241846

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Small Business Customer Manager, included with:
    • Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Tools
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SYMPTOMS

All new contacts are marked as Private after they are saved even though you do not select the option to mark them as Private.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when running the Small Business Contact Manager (SBCM) under the following conditions:

  • You answered No when asked if you wanted to Designate this Contact as a Small Business Manager contact.
-and-
  • You selected the option to "Don't prompt me about this again."

RESOLUTION

To recover from this condition, do one of the following on the computer on which the SBCM add-in is installed:

  • Turn off the Outlook Synchronization COM add-in.
Note: This option will disable the interface to the SBMC add-in.
-or-
  • Modify the registry to display the prompt again.

MORE INFORMATION

The SBCM gives a user the ability to import contacts from Outlook into its database so that users may track their Customers and Sales information in Microsoft Access. The SBCM will not import contacts marked as Private. Therefore, when a user clicks No when asked if they want to designate this contact as a Small Business Manager Contact, the contact will be marked Private.

To Turn Off the Outlook Synchronization COM Add-in

NOTE: This resolution will disable the interface to the SBCM add-in.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options, and then click COM Add-ins.

  3. Click to clear the Outlook Synchronization check box.

  4. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.

To Modify the Registry

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

  2. Move to the following registry key:

  3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\CMA
  4. Double-click MakeCMAContacts and change its Value Data to 0 (zero) and then click OK.

  5. On the Registry menu, click Exit.

The possible values for MakeCMAContacts are:
0 = Prompt User to choose if Contact will be an SBCM Contact.
1 = Don't prompt and do make the Contact an SBCM contact.
2 = Don't prompt and do not make the Contact an SBCM contact and mark the Contact Private.
