OL2000: Plain Text Messages Word Wrap Incorrectly When Printed

ID: Q242388

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

Plain text messages do not word wrap properly when you print the message, or view it in print preview.

CAUSE

The WORDWRAP property of the converter responsible for processing the message doesn't match the line length of the received message, resulting in premature hard line breaks.

RESOLUTION

Print the message from Microsoft Notepad.

  1. Open the mail item in Outlook.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  4. Open Notepad.

  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

  6. On the Format menu, click Word Wrap if it is not all ready selected. This feature is selected when a check mark is present on the menu.

  7. On the File menu, click Print.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you receive a plain text message that contains hard line breaks between 64 and 80 characters, the converter wraps the text again at 64 characters when printing or displaying in print preview. This results in some lines with 64 characters and some lines with only a few characters.
