OL2000: Word Cannot Insert Address from Outlook Address Book or Personal Address Book

SYMPTOMS

The selected address is not inserted when using the Insert Address feature of Microsoft Word to access an address from the Outlook Address Book (OAB), or the Personal Address Book (PAB). This is despite the fact that the Contact information is visible in the Insert Address dialog box and no errors are displayed when the address fails to be inserted into the document.


CAUSE

The Address Book feature in Word is not installed.


RESOLUTION

Run setup again and install the Address Book component.

To Install the Address Book Component

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click to select Microsoft Office 97, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. In Microsoft Office 97 Setup, click Add/Remove.


  5. Click to select Microsoft Word. Do not clear the Microsoft Word check box.


  6. Click Change Option.


  7. Click to select the Address Book check box.


  8. Click OK and continue through Office 97 Setup until setup is complete.
