OL98: (CW) Synchronization Properties Tab is Missing

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 98

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you use Offline Folders in Microsoft Outlook 98, the Synchronization Properties tab does not display on any of the default folders.


CAUSE

This occurs when you use the following registry setting:


   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\OST
   Value Name: NoOST
   Data Type: REG_DWORD
   Value: 3 

MORE INFORMATION:

Although the tab is not shown, folder synchronization still functions properly.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Technical Support to obtain the fix. If you are not severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next release of Microsoft Outlook.
