OL98: Offline Address Book Written to the Wrong Location

ID: Q154056

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows NT client, version 8.5
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows 95/98 client, version 8.5

SYMPTOMS

The Offline Address Book (OAB) may appear empty, or display old information.

CAUSE

When synchronizing the OAB, Outlook copies the OAB files to the local workstation for later use. When the client needs them to display the Address Book contents, it assumes the OAB files are in a different location from where they were copied. For example, the OAB may be downloaded to the C:\TEMP directory, but is expected to be in the C:\WINNT directory. The result is either an empty OAB, or the display of old information.

An intermediate version of some of the Outlook support files (see below) caused this problem. The way Outlook stores temporary files was changed, and the location for the OAB files was incorrectly changed also. Note this problem does not appear in the released product.
