OL98: Installation Fails with Some Spanish Language Settings

The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOM
When you attempt to install Microsoft Outlook 98 you receive the following
error message:
Installation is incomplete
Setup will now restart Windows. Save any work and close all applications
before clicking OK.
The following Outlook 98 and Internet Explorer 4.01 components were not
installed.
NOTE: The components not installed will depend on the installation option,
either Corporate Workgroup, or Internet Mail Only.
RESOLUTION
The English language version of Outlook does not install correctly on
computers whose language settings are set to "Spanish (Traditional Sort)"
or "Spanish (Mexican)." To install Outlook correctly you must modify your
regional settings, install Outlook, and then restore your original regional
settings.
To Modify Your Regional Settings
To modify your regional settings, follow these steps:
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Regional Settings icon.
- On the Regional Settings tab, make a note of the region displayed.
- In the list of regions, click to select Spanish (Modern Sort), or any
Spanish setting other than Traditional Sort or Mexican.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Close Control Panel and restart your computer.
Install Outlook and then restore the settings you made a note of in step 3.
To Restore Your Original Settings
After you complete the installation of Outlook, to restore your original
regional settings follow these steps:
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Regional Settings icon.
- In the list of regions, click to select the setting you made a note of
in step 3 of the "To Modify Your Regional Settings" section.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Close Control Panel and restart your computer.
