SUMMARY
In most cases, using the right mouse button to drag a file from the Windows
Explorer into another open program window gives you a menu option to create
a
shortcut at the target location. However, in Microsoft Outlook 98, you will
not
see a menu and an attachment will be created in the appointment.
This article describes three methods to overcome this problem:
- Drag the file onto an Outlook Calendar page.
- Use the Insert command to insert a shortcut.
- Drag a shortcut into the open appointment note window.
MORE INFORMATIONMethod 1: Drag the File onto an Outlook Calendar Page
Right-click the file and drag the file from Windows Explorer into an
Outlook
Calendar page. This procedure will open a new appointment with a shortcut
to the
file in the Notes window.
Method 2: Use the Insert Command to Insert a Shortcut
- Open an appointment in Outlook.
- On the Insert menu, click File.
- Select the file you want. In the Insert As box, click Shortcut
and then click OK.
Method 3: Drag a Shortcut into the Open Appointment Note Window
- Open an appointment in Outlook. Do not minimize it.
- Open Windows Explorer. To do this, point to Programs on the Windows
Start
menu, and then click Windows Explorer.
- Find the file you want to use. Right-click the file and then click
Create
Shortcut on the menu that appears. A shortcut will be created in the
same
folder as the file.
- Drag the shortcut from the folder into the open appointment note window.
If the appointment is hidden behind the Windows Explorer window, drag
the
file and rest the pointer over the appointment button on the Windows
Taskbar
until the appointment comes to the foreground.
