OL98: Cannot Add Shortcut for a Single File to Outlook Bar

SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Outlook 98, you cannot add a shortcut to the Outlook Bar for
a single file or program executable.
CAUSE
Outlook Bar shortcuts can only point to file system folders or Mail
folders.
RESOLUTION
Follow these steps to create a folder that contains shortcuts to your
programs and or files, and then drag that folder to the Outlook Bar.
Create a Folder for Program Shortcuts
- Click the My Computer icon in the Other Shortcuts group on the
Outlook Bar.
- If the Folder list is not visible, click Folder List on the View menu.
- In the Folder List, click to select the location for the new
shortcuts folder. If a folder already exists, skip to step 6.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type an appropriate name for the folder, and then click OK.
- Drag the new folder from the Folder list to the Outlook Bar.
A shortcut will be created on the Outlook Bar to the new folder.
Create Shortcuts to Your Programs or Files in the New Folder
- In Other Shortcuts on the Outlook Bar, click My Computer.
- In the Folder list, locate the folder that contains the program or
file you want to have available in the new shortcut folder.
- Drag the file to the shortcut on the Outlook Bar.
To use the new shortcut folder, click the new icon on the Outlook Bar, and
then double-click the file or program in the Outlook information viewer.
