The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 98

SUMMARY

This article describes how you can use Microsoft Outlook to display your Contacts from the Outlook Address Book in a different format, such as "Last Name, First Name" (without the quotation marks).

MORE INFORMATION

The Contacts list in your Outlook Address Book uses the Subject field when displaying persons in the Address Book. Although you can change the way individual contacts are displayed in the Address Book, you cannot change the display name uniformly for all contacts at once.

To display an individual Outlook Address Book Contact by Last Name, First Name, follow these steps:

  1. In Outlook, open a contact.

  2. In the contact, click the All Fields tab.

  3. In the Select From list, click All Contact Fields.

  4. Under the Name column, find the Subject field.

This is the field that the Address Book uses to display your contact's name.

  5. In the Value box, type the name the way you want it to appear in the Address Book, for example, Doe, Jane.

  6. Click the Save And Close toolbar button to save your changes, and then close the contact.

Corporate Workgroup (CW) Notes

On the Tools menu, click Address Book to open your Address Book. In the "Show Names from the" list, click to select your Outlook Address Book Contacts. You should see the contact that you modified listed as Last Name, First Name.

Internet Mail Only (IMO) Notes

On the Tools menu, click Address Book to open your Address Book. You should see the contact that you modified listed as Last Name, First Name.
