OL98: Switching from One Installation Type to Another

SUMMARY

This article describes how to change your Microsoft Outlook 98 installation from "Internet Mail Only" to "Corporate Workgroup" and from Corporate Workgroup to Internet Mail Only.

Conversion from Internet Mail Only (IMO)to Corporate Workgroup (CW) requires that you run the Outlook 98 setup program in Maintenance mode. The steps to change from one type of installation to the other are similar except for the installation option you choose.

NOTE: When you switch from the Internet Mail Only to the Corporate Workgroup installation of Outlook, the information that was contained in your old Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) account is not transferred to your new installation. It is important to also note that you should only switch to another installation type once. Switching back and forth can cause certain user options to be lost.

To Change the Installation Type

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. Click Add New Components, and then click Install From CD or Install From Web, depending on how you originally installed Outlook.


  5. Click Yes to allow Active Setup to detect installed components.


  6. Scroll down to Mail Components and click to select Internet Only E-Mail Service, or Corporate or Workgroup E-Mail service, depending on the option you are converting to. If you are converting to Internet Only E-mail Service, click Symantec WinFax Starter Edition to install the Fax options.

    NOTE: When you convert from CW to IMO and you had Microsoft Fax installed as part of your mail profile, Symantec WinFax Starter Edition will be selected.


  7. Click Next to continue and finish the installation.


To install the "No E-mail" option after having installed either the Internet Mail Only or Corporate Workgroup option, your must completely remove Outlook and reinstall with the No E-mail option.

To Remove Outlook Completely

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. On the Active Setup dialog box, click Remove Outlook 98 and follow the Wizard's instructions.


To Reinstall Outlook with the No E-mail Option

  1. From your Outlook CD, select Install Outlook 98.


  2. On the E-mail Upgrade Options dialog box, click to select "None of the above" and click Next.


  3. On the E-mail Service Options dialog box, click to select "No E-mail" and follow the Wizard's instructions.
