NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

To remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition and reinstall the components, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition entries from the Registry


  2. Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Account


  3. Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Files


  4. Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Printer Driver


  5. Reinstall the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition


NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Entries from the Registry

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

  1. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Outlook.


  2. Click the Start button, and point to Run.


  3. In the Open box, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks), and click OK to run the Windows Registry Editor.


  4. Select the following subkey (click the folder in the left pane), and then click Delete on the Edit menu:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\OLFAX


  5. Select the following subkey (click the folder in the left pane), and then click Delete on the Edit menu:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\OLFAX


  6. On the Registry menu, click Exit to quit the Registry Editor.


Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Account

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click the Mail icon


  3. Click to select Symantec WinFax Starter Edition, click Remove and then click Close.


  4. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and click Windows Explorer.


  5. Move all of the files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Data to any other directory.


NOTE: Do not simply delete the files, in case you need them as a backup.

For information about how to create a new folder, click the Start button and then click Help. In Windows Help, click the Index tab, type "creating folders" (without quotation marks), and then click Display.

For information about how to move files, click the Start button, and then click Help. In Windows Help, click the Index tab, type "moving files" (without quotation marks), and then click Display.

Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Files

Rename the following files. For example, change the file name extensions from ".dll" to ".old" or another unused extension.

Wfxvw32i.dll
Usually found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Addins:
Olfext.ecf
Usually found in C:\Windows:
Extend.dat

Remove the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Printer Driver

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Printers.


  2. Right-click the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Printer Driver and then click Delete on the shortcut menu. Click Yes when you receive each of the following messages:
    
    Are you sure you want to delete the printer 'Symantec WinFax
         Starter Edition'. 
    -and-
    
    Some files were used only for this printer and are no longer
         needed. Would you like to delete these files now? 


Reinstall the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition

When Symantec WinFax Starter Edition is installed, start Outlook and if the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Setup Wizard does not start, close Outlook and run OLFSETUP.EXE.

To run Olfsetup.exe, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Find and click Files Or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type OLFSETUP.EXE.


  3. In the Look In list, click to select your hard disk drive.


  4. Click to select the Include Subfolders check box, and click Find Now.


  5. When the file name is displayed in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Setup Wizard.
