OL98: New Tasks Do Not Appear in Outlook Today

SYMPTOMS

Tasks created with a new custom task form do not appear in Outlook Today.


CAUSE

The Simple List option filters out tasks created with a custom task form along with other non-task items.


RESOLUTION

To see the tasks created with a custom form, switch from Simple List to Today's Tasks.


MORE INFORMATION

Outlook Today allows the user to see at a glance, the number of new mail messages, tasks for today, and Calendar items for today. The Simple list option for Tasks filters out all tasks that were created with a custom task form.

This behavior does not occur with appointments created with a custom appointment form.

Switch to Today's Tasks

  1. In the Folder List, click Outlook Today and click Options.


  2. Click to select Today's Tasks, and then click "Back to Outlook Today."


All of your tasks for today including ones created with a custom task form will now be visible.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a custom form for a task item.


  2. Publish the new form to the Task folder.


  3. Right-click the Task folder and on the shortcut menu, click Properties.


  4. On the General tab next to "When posting to this folder, use" click to select your new custom form. Click Apply, and then OK.


  5. Create some tasks.


  6. Switch to Outlook Today.
